Take a look at HB0262, which is new piece of legislation in Illinois designed to abolish the death penalty in the state. It will no doubt be extremely difficult to get this legislation passed in this session, but it will be impossible without people mobilizing around it.

There is currently a moratorium in Illinois on any executions, put into place by Governor Ryan, and continued by Governor Blagojevich. While the moratorium has assured that no person will be executed in the state in recent years, it still means that we have work to do to abolish the death penalty completely in the state.

The Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty is actively working to end the barbaric practice in the state, and is always looking for new members and partners in the efforts. And oh yea... I recently just built their new site!
