Apple: No on #8

No on Prop 8

Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

Very cool.

Are people going to boycott Apple like they did McDonalds?

I'm pretty sure this was done because of the Yes On Prop 8 folks' threatening to release the names of any companies supporting the No on Prop 8 campaign unless they donated money to the Yes on Prop 8 Campaign. I guess they're taking campain tips from McCain/Palin.

Can a Christian support what God put His Son on the cross to pay for?

First of all, I am not sure that "God put His Son on the cross to pay for" gay marriage.

Second of all, I am very convinced that it is not the State of California's role to support or oppose what "God put His Son on the cross to pay for."

Third, I am not sure how a Christian can support hatred and bigotry of people who may or may not not be different than they are.

Thanks for the reply.

If God considers it sin (just as heterosexual sex outside of marriage is), then should I, as a Christian, support it?

I will submit to what the government determines, but I don't feel the support of a sinful lifestyle outside of God's ordained institution is the answer.

I am not convinced that God considers it a sin. But that is for a different discussion at a different time (and one that I really don't have the energy to get into at this time).

But no one is asking you to support gay marriage. They are asking you not to ban it.

Two different things.

Honestly, this isn't even about whether or not you support gay marriage. This is about the government saying who can and can't be married. If something like this were to pass, whether or not you agree with gay marriage, it's a very slippery slope. What's next?

If you don't think homosexuals should be married, fine, be like that. But if you want to deny them basic rights that other married couples have, that's bigotry any way you look at it. It doesn't have to be called marriage. The church can have that institution. All they want is equal rights. Call it a civil union, whatever.

This is an issue of individual rights, not morality.

Its not about my opinion at all. It is your Creator's opinion that matters.

Not to the law. The laws of this country are required to be neutral with regards to religion.

Nobody (the lies of the "Yes on 8" campaign notwithstanding) is trying to force churches to recognize marriages that are wrong according to their beliefs. The issue here is whether the doctrines of certain churches should be dictated to the rest of us by force of law.

Brendoman: In California homosexuals already have civil unions. This prop 8 issue is purely a battle over the word "marriage" being applied to same-sex unions. Prop 8 does not take away any civil rights or liberties of same-sex couples. It just protects "marriage" to maintain the same meaning it has had for thousands of years.

The slippery slope works both ways. Once homosexuals have legalized marriage the next step is to step is to teach same-sex marriage to children as early as possible before "they have a chance to make up their own mind" exactly like they are in Massachusetts. The next step is to seek the removal of tax-exemption of churches who don't perform same-sex marriages.

Tolerance is supposed to be a two way street. Yet somehow there is no tolerance for people that believe that traditional marriage (the only kind of marriage capable of producing offspring) should have an elevated status in our society.

Huh? How so?

When people try to pass constitutional amendments against traditional marriage, let me know.
