So... we will probably find out who Barack Obama has chosen to be his vice president today.

Who it will be?

I have a hunch it is going to be Hillary Clinton.

Please, anyone but her.

Well... I would rather have Clinton as a VP than Biden, Bayh, or Kaine.

She is more progressive than any of those three, she is a better politicians, she is a great debater, and she will bring in more votes than any of the above three.

She's progressive in a lot of areas and I appreciate that, but she's very conservative in others. She's part of the group that blames movies and video games on pretty much everything bad in the world and those people just bother the hell out of me. Also, as a senator she's been less than stellar for me. However, I would rather have her than some of Obama's choices and I think it would be a good move to help unite the party. I don't know, I'm on the fence about it.

The buzz is that McCain picked Romney. I really hope that's true. If Rev Wright's statements are fair game, then so are any and all Mormon leaders and teachings.

Romney woudn't surprise me.

And I also think that Romney comes across as a slimy politician that is very unlikeable. He should be fun.

If Clinton cared about the party or liberal causes or anything but her own career, she wouldn't have attacked Obama so much. I would agree that we need her to be an attack dog, but I think the Obama campaign is showing that they're not shy about that.

Sibelius would be good. I'm not crazy about Kaine or Bayh, either. I'd like to see someone with military experience like Clark. I guess we'll find out soon enough. The campaign has shown themselves to be quite shrewd, so I'll trust their judgment, I guess.

I don't think I really buy that. I didn't like it, but I also know that she wanted to win. Obama did his fair share of attacking too.

But... part of Obama's current "struggles" (he is still leading in polls... can you call that struggles?) is that a decent chunk of Clinton voters are not getting behind Obama. An Obama/Clinton ticket would get many of those voters behind that ticket, which could lead to a pretty huge Obama win in November.

Yeah, but do you really think those Clinton supporters are going to vote for McCain? If they do, and he wins, they can lie in the bed they made. I guess I'll have to also but I'll have a clearer conscience.

Yea... I do think that many them will vote for McCain, unfortunately.

McCain has this strange ability to appear likable to a large number of people who would otherwise disagree with him on pretty much every issue.

Oh... and I would be interested in Clark, but it doesn't appear that he is one of the options at this point.

Frankly, I keep hoping that he's being cagey and the actual VP selection will be someone we haven't been hearing about.

Kucinich? :)

I don't have anybody specific in mind, really. My favorite Dem is Tim Ryan, but I wouldn't make him VP (at least not until he's served in the Senate for a while, heh).

I don't want Clinton. I don't want Obama "shoring up his foreign policy credentials" by picking someone who was for the war, which is what the conventional wisdom says he should do because the conventional wisdom apparently still hasn't noticed that the people who were for the war were, in fact, wrong.
Comment from: Dave [Member] Email · http://www.mindfulmission.com 08/22/08 @ 11:30 PermalinkPermalink
I don't want Clinton because she voted for the war is "stronger" on foreign policy.

I want Clinton because she is better than the other rumored options. And because she will help Obama win.

Oh, no, I realize *you* don't want her for that reason. :) I was responding to what I've been seeing in the more mainstream outlets.

I'd have to agree with you Dave. I think Clinton is better than the other options that have been brought up.

Politico says it's not Hillary. Thank you baby Jesus. Thank you Tom Cruise. I'm just hearing the name Chet Edwards for the first time.
Comment from: Dave [Member] Email · http://www.mindfulmission.com 08/22/08 @ 13:49 PermalinkPermalink
I don't necessarily buy the source on the Hillary story. But we will see.

I too have not heard Chet Edwards' name. Who?
Comment from: Dave [Member] Email · http://www.mindfulmission.com 08/22/08 @ 13:55 PermalinkPermalink
Chet Edwards... from Wikipedia:
Edwards voted in favor of the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
...
He voted for the Defense of Marriage Act and supports a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
Lovely.

Here is more. I must say that he looks less appealing than anyone else I have heard yet.

...oh, joy.

I'm hearing Jack Reed's name a lot now. He would be a good choice. They say he's been under Secret Service protection for the last 24 hours.
