Abortion Reduction in Dem Platform?
Pro-Life Democrats Call for an Abortion Reduction Plank (hat tip Jen R). Tony Campolo is leading a push for the inclusion of an abortion reduction plank in this year's Democratic Parth platform. The platform plan connects directly to the 95/10 plan (which I have previously written about here), which claims to that the U.S. can reduce abortions by 95% in ten years by rolling out initiatives like stronger anti-poverty measures, available birth control, paid maternity leave, etc. I am curious for your thoughts. Should the Democratic Party be interested in reducing the number of abortions that occur? Why or why not? And should the Republican Party be interested and willing to take measures to reduce abortions that go beyond criminalization? Comments, Pingbacks:
I think the abortion reduction plan will sway some open-minded voters who "just can't vote out of conscious" for the Dems because of the abortion thing. Now I did say open-minded, yet they are stuck on one issue. Frankly I've heard the excuse too many times...but if you can eliminate the excuse by taking a stance to reduce abortion in the midst of allowing your constituency to have the right to choose...it is a win/win for the Dems.
Now I would love for there to be no choice if the government can actually deliver a definition of life (until it can, it can't really make a decision on whether something is murder or not), but I'd be more inclined to back somebody who wants to do something about decreasing the number of abortions than I would for somebody who blows millions on lobbying leaving women who still feel hopeless and get an illegal abortion, harming further her own health.
